Our Story

Since 1958, Takara has been writing a Japanese story in Paris.

"A cuisine that warms the heart enough to forget the tumult of Paris."

— Mrs. Iimori

1958

A house is born on rue Molière

In post-war Paris, on a quiet street in the 1st arrondissement, Takara opened its doors. It was one of the first Japanese restaurants in the capital — a rarity at a time when Japan still felt distant to Parisians.

The quarter

In the heart of Japanese Paris

The Opéra district would, over the decades, become the Japanese heart of Paris. Takara, the oldest of them all, has been a quiet witness — faithful to its calm street, faithful to its gestures.

The cuisine

Sushi, sashimi, nabe

A classic cuisine, without flourish: fish chosen at the market each morning, rice cooked with precision, hot pots that warm the Parisian winter. The season commands, the gesture follows.

Today

The home of all who love Japan

Some have called us “the canteen of the stars.” We prefer to say: the home of all who, for the length of a meal, want to forget Paris to find Japan again.

Paris 1st

14 Rue Molière, 75001 Paris

A short walk from the Opéra and the Palais-Royal, on a quiet street — Japan, in Paris.
